Health coaches support and empower you to make positive diet and lifestyle changes. Change is really difficult, and many of the choices we make on a daily basis are driven largely by behaviour and environmental factors. It often feels overwhelming and it takes perseverance, resilience, dedication and support to achieve your goals. Health coaches partner with you to identify and facilitate these changes, and help you attain your health goals and improve your health habits.

What it is
Health coaching is a powerful client-centered partnership
- Support individuals or groups to achieve self-determined strategies and goals related to their own health and wellness
- Work with clients on health related issues or help a client to implement strategies from their nutritionist/dietitian/functional medicine doctor
- Empower clients to make sustainable, healthy lifestyle and behaviour changes
- Act as accountability partners to help clients reach their health goals
- Encourage personal responsibility, self discovery and self efficacy
What it isn’t
Health coaching is not counseling or therapy
- Lecturing or dispensing advice without thought to individual needs
- Offer clinical assessments or treatment plans
- Diagnosing conditions
- Providing interventions
- Prescribe or dispense medication
- A magic bullet!
If you’ve been given a protocol, and having a hard time sticking with it, or simply looking to change some unhealthy behaviors and not sure how to start, health coaching may be the missing piece of achieving your optimal wellness.
According to this study on time allocation in primary care office visits, the average length of visits was “15.7 minutes covering a median of six topics. About 5 minutes were spent on the longest topic whereas the remaining topics each received 1.1 minutes. While time spent by patient and physician on a topic responded to many factors, length of the visit overall varied little even when contents of visits varied widely.” This study is based on time and doesn’t reflect the quality and content of the conversations each patient received. How effective can health coaching really be?
According to this 2017 study on the effectiveness of lifestyle health coaching, coaching “results in clinically relevant improvements in multiple biomarker risk factors (including systolic and diastolic blood pressure, total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, HDL cholesterol, triglycerides, fasting glucose, body weight, body mass index, waist circumference, and cardiorespiratory fitness) in diverse populations.”

A one-off call (30 minutes) that helps you check-in with yourself, and explore if health coaching is right for you. Answer any questions about the process and possibilities.

A three to six month program designed to bring greater clarity to areas of your life, and to help you achieve and formulate attainable plans towards your health and wellness goals.

OUR PROCESS
So what’s involved in a health coaching session?
Every individual is different and as a result every coaching conversation is different. There is no one size fits all and each coaching session is tailored to the individual client.
Discovery Session
Let’s say you’re interested. What next? You begin by booking a Discovery Session. This is a phone or Zoom session that lasts anywhere from 45-75 minutes. We go over what health coaching is, what the scope of practice is, and learn more about your issues, concerns and current state of your health.
Individual Session
Once you’ve decided to move ahead, we sign a coaching agreement, review any necessary forms or doctors or nutritionist reports, and begin our coaching sessions. These can be weekly or bi-weekly sessions that last about 45-60 minutes. We typically recommend 3-6 months of consistent coaching, and it is purely up to the client to continue the sessions. Clients can cancel at anytime.
Group Session
Some families or friends prefer to receive coaching together for a reduced rate. At the moment group sessions are only available upon request.
