Reclaiming Health, Redefining Self: My Journey to Becoming a Functional Health & Wellness Coach

Coaching

I’m a mother, a daughter, a sister, aunt, wife, business owner, creative, and coach. Like many women, I wear a lot of hats—and for years, I wore them while feeling completely disconnected from my own body.

I didn’t feel truly well until I turned 40.

That’s a long time to feel “just okay.” A long time to live in a body that didn’t always feel like it was mine. My journey into functional wellness began, not in a moment of inspiration—but in the middle of a health crisis.

In my early 30s, I was hospitalized suddenly with a detaching retina and I nearly lost the vision in my right eye. That moment, terrifying as it was, cracked something open. It was the first time I stopped long enough to see the truth of how I was living: overworked, undernourished, and deeply disconnected.

I was pouring all my energy into my creative agency which I had built from the ground up. I absolutely loved the studio and it consumed me entirely. I was in a toxic relationship. My diet was erratic, my weight fluctuated, and I was getting by on caffeine and cocktail-hour appetizers to make it through the day. My body was waving red flags—gut issues, skin flare-ups, mental fog, anxiety, fatigue—but I kept pushing. I appeared fine from the outside. But inside, I was a mess.

I was 32 and completely burned out.

Like so many women, I tried to fix it all with quick solutions. Sporadic yoga retreats. Week long juice cleanses. The latest workout. Diet trends. They helped temporarily, but the glow never lasted. What I really needed was a lifestyle overhaul—a return to something deeper. But I didn’t know where to start.

Until life forced me to stop.

The Wake-Up Call That Changed Everything

In 2010, my right retina tore without warning. I had been having headaches for a few weeks, and then I noticed one whole corner of my vision went dark. I was worried. I scheduled an appointment with an ophthalmologist. within thirty minutes of an examination he told me I needed an operation right away. When the doctor told me the news, my first question was, “How soon can I get back to work?” He said flatly, “Recovery will take several weeks.” I was distraught. There was no time to go home and no time for a second opinion. Next thing I knew I was being rushed into a four-hour surgery with two surgeons working in tandem to save my eyesight.

I didn’t know it then, but that moment marked the beginning of my real healing.

Recovery wasn’t just physical. It was emotional. I had to move in with my sister because I couldn’t care for myself. My family had to step in and help pay my medical bills because I was financially unstable. I had no choice but to slow down.

Lying in my sister’s guest bedroom, with a patch over my eye and a business I couldn’t run, I finally saw it clearly: I was running on empty. How did I end up here? My body wasn’t failing me—I had been failing it. What had it been trying to tell me? Why had I chosen to ignore all the signs?

I had no vision for my life and it couldn’t have been more clear. I was scared and I needed to do something about it. That realization became the foundation and the catalyst for change.

From Rock Bottom to Rooted Wellness

Healing didn’t happen overnight. It never does. It took years of unlearning, experimenting, failing, and growing. But slowly, I began to rebuild my life from the inside out. I began to focus.

I moved my body and became a certified yoga instructor. I learned to surf in Bali. I visited Macchu Picchu. I went to therapy. Through the journey I rebalanced my diet, focusing on whole foods and nutrient density. I stopped chasing short-term fixes and started cultivating long-term vitality. I ended toxic relationships, cleaned up my environment, and reconnected to what really mattered.

I moved to New York City and started over. I transitioned out of studio life and stepped into deeper creative alignment. There were the years I worked with a health start-up, and the years where I travelled. I got married. My son was born. I started to heal my gut, learned how to support my nervous system, and design a life that nourished me.

And then, I realized I wanted to help others do the same.

Becoming a Functional Health and Wellness Coach

My transformation led me to pursue formal training in integrative and functional health. I enrolled at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition (IIN), followed by advanced studies with Chris Kresser’s ADAPT Health Coach Training Program. In 2023, I proudly earned my board certification with the NBHWC (National Board for Health & Wellness Coaching)—the gold standard in evidence-based coaching.

Today, I work with women all over the world as a functional health and wellness coach, specializing in lifestyle transformation, mindful nutrition, and meditation. My coaching practice is rooted in functional medicine principles and the power of behavior change science. It’s also deeply personal because I’ve been there.

I know what it’s like to not have a clear picture of what you want in life and to feel lost in your own body. To want change—but not know how to, or where to begin.

I see you. I mean, I really see you.

Why Functional Health Coaching Works

Functional health coaching isn’t about quick fixes or one-size-fits-all protocols. It’s about uncovering the root causes of imbalance and supporting you holistically—mind, body, and spirit.

Whether you’re struggling with fatigue, anxiety, fertility challenges, gut dysfunction, hormonal shifts, or just feeling disconnected from your vitality, this work is about identifying what’s really going on underneath the surface.

As a coach, I provide support, structure, and strategy. But more than that, I walk beside you as a partner in your transformation. Through powerful coaching conversations and evidence-based practices, we create real, sustainable change together.

Who I Work With

I support women at all stages of life—whether you’re navigating your 30s with burnout and hormonal chaos, stepping into motherhood, healing from or struggling through a chronic ailment, or redefining health in your 40s and beyond.

Many of my clients are high-achieving professionals, entrepreneurs and mothers. Women who have checked all the boxes—but still feel something is off. Women who are tired of treating symptoms, chasing something unseen and wanting to heal from the inside out.

If that’s you, you’re not alone.

Together, we work to:

  • Rebuild energy and resilience
  • Heal digestion and improve gut health
  • Restore hormonal balance and fertility
  • Reconnect to body wisdom and hunger cues
  • Reduce inflammation and chronic stress
  • Optimize sleep, mood, and mental clarity
  • Create nourishing routines that actually work
  • Cultivate a deeper connection to your Self and your purpose

The Power of Personalized, Rooted Coaching

There’s no single way to “be healthy.” There’s only what works for you.

Functional wellness coaching honors your unique biology, your story, your preferences, and your goals. I don’t prescribe meal plans or enforce rigid routines. Instead, I listen deeply. I ask powerful questions. I help you connect the dots and co-create a plan that feels aligned, flexible, and empowering.

Healing doesn’t mean becoming someone else. It means becoming more yourself.

Creative Direction to Coaching

Before I became a functional health coach, I spent over 15 years working as a creative director and designer. I was immersed in the world of form, function, and meaning—shaping messages, building brands, crafting visual identities. But the deeper I went into design, the more I came to understand that great design—lasting, effective, soul-stirring design—isn’t about decoration.

It’s about relationship.

At its core, design is the intentional arrangement of parts in relation to one another. Typography is about the relationship between letters and space—how a word feels as much as what it says. Color theory explores how hues interact and influence emotion. Grid systems and layout principles dictate how elements relate on a page, creating balance or tension.

Every design decision asks: how does this relate to that?

In branding, we’re always holding form and content—what is said, and how it’s seen—in relationship. If the words and visuals don’t support each other, something feels off. Good design feels effortless because everything is in harmony. It speaks fluently, even silently. It resonates.

And life is no different.

What I saw through years of designing for others is that every problem in design—whether clutter, confusion, imbalance—was a reflection of misalignment in relationship. When elements are in conflict, the result is disharmony. When the relationship between form and function is ignored, the message is lost at best, and confusing at worst. Even if you’re not unfamiliar with design principles, you can immediately see, or feel that something is ‘off’.

In my personal life, I had been out of alignment for years. My relationship with my body, my vision, my food, my energy, my boundaries—they were all fragmented. And that fragmentation showed up in my health. It wasn’t until I began to heal those relationships and put the pieces back together in a meaningful way that I began to truly feel well.

Coaching is a Form of Design

Now, as a functional health and wellness coach, I bring that same lens to my work with women. Coaching is, in many ways, a form of design—it’s about observing patterns, identifying what’s not working, and co-creating something more aligned, more functional, more beautiful. And not just that — something deeply inspiring, resonant and hopefully long-lasting.

Together, we explore the relationships that define your health:

  • The relationship between your thoughts and your nervous system
  • Between your food and your energy
  • Between your environment and your hormones
  • Between your habits and your goals
  • Between your mind and your body
  • Between your present and your purpose

This work is not about controlling every detail. Just like good design, it’s about creating the right conditions for flow. It’s about making intentional choices, rooted in clarity, so that what you’re creating—whether a brand or a life—feels whole, coherent, and true.

Design taught me how to see. Coaching taught me how to listen.

Now, I use both.

Because when your inner and outer worlds begin to reflect each other—when your values align with your actions, when your daily rhythms support your biology, when your relationships nourish instead of deplete—life starts to feel well-designed. Not in a rigid, perfect way. But in a way that appears not only beautiful, but also functional.

Just like in design, whitespace is essential—the space between elements that gives everything room to breathe really matters. In life, that shows up as your rest, your pauses, your boundaries. It’s in those quiet spaces that healing takes shape.

Whether I’m working on a health transformation or a visual identity, the process is the same: pay attention to relationships. Align what’s within with what’s around. And make space for something new to emerge.

You Are Meant to Thrive

I started this practice—Wildseed Health—to help women look, feel, and live their best. Not just in their 20s or 30s, but across every season of life. Because wellness isn’t a destination—it’s a relationship. A process. A daily act of remembering who you are and honoring what you need.

My purpose is to help you build that relationship. To help you feel at home in your body again. To experience clarity, connection, and creativity across every area of your life. To help you reconnect to your body’s wisdom, rewire your habits, and reclaim the vibrant, powerful life you were meant to live.
